Let the adventure begin!
As each traveler may hike the trail at a different pace, summit the mountain via an alternate route or climb the rock face using different holds; so each individual's journey through recovery can and should be unique. Talking only gets us so far. Walking gets us a little bit further. And so we walk and we talk and we hike and we climb. And along the way we begin to understand. And so the journey begins...
Recovery is an adventure! And so it is natural to have a healthy measure of adventure in each recovery. Though recovery is often touted as a Body, Mind and Spirit journey; most often it is treated as only a mind journey, with very many opportunities to talk and express the mind's struggles and discoveries but with very few opportunities to allow the body and spirit to flex and grow and really allow for the complete 3-fold experience to guide the individual into true health and balance.
Adventure Therapy; being a body, mind and spirit therapy, actively engages all three of the critical components simultaneously in real time and in an actual event, giving the participant a real experience to process, absorb and learn from. Whether it be an early morning walk, a challenging mid-afternoon trek, a late sunset journey or a quick dash up an indoor climbing wall; adventure therapy is certainly a critical component of an adventurous recovery. As the original program of Choice, Empowerment and Transformation; adventure therapy is a natural complement to the modern therapy provided at Living at Reflections-literally providing the bedrock on which to implement and integrate the tools and skills taught and learned throughout the therapeutic work-week. Each fork in the trail provides an opportunity for choice, each challenging uphill an active empowerment and each summit a moment of transformation. Recovery is indeed an adventure!
